Arrival and Fasting Times:

If you are having surgery at St Vincent’s Private Hospital or St Vincent’s Private Day Surgery Unit, a staff member from the hospital will contact you between 12 noon and 6pm on the business day prior to your admission to notify you of your arrival time. Please arrive at the main reception desk on Level 4. The reception staff will direct you to the admission area.

If you are required to fast before your procedure, the hospital staff will advise when to stop eating and drinking and which medications you can still take.

Please make sure you have completed the pre admission forms and have sent these into the hospital ahead of time.

MEDICATIONS:

Some tablets can cause excessive bleeding at operation, so it is desirable to stop taking the medication well beforehand. However, if you are taking such medications for problems with your heart or blood vessels please ensure you discuss this with your doctor. If you are uncertain about any of your medications please discuss with your surgeon. Please download the Medication Information handout for further details.

ANAESTHETIST:

Once you have a surgery date we are able to provide you with anaesthetist details. Please contact the rooms if you require anaesthetic information.

FEES:

When planning for your surgery at a Private Hospital there are three main costs to consider: Surgeon, Anaesthetist and Private Hospital.

  • Surgeon: In order for Dr Yuen’s rooms to claim the Medicare and private health fund rebate on your behalf, prepayment of the total fee is required 2 weeks prior to your procedure date. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, then please contact the rooms to discuss a payment plan.
  • Anaesthetist: Once a date is scheduled for your surgery, we are able to give you anaesthetists details and you can then contact their rooms to obtain an estimate.
  • Hospital Fee: We recommend you contact your private health fund provider to check you are covered for surgery and hospital accommodation. Your health fund will ask you for item numbers, these can be found on your quote.
